After we conducted a thorough observation of the design of the buttons and their application in real scenarios, we discovered that the initial connection between the head and the neck of the button figure was not logical. We then changed it to a neck that emerged from the middle of the head. At the same time, we experimented with a combination style of 2D and 3D. The head of the button figure was presented using real-shot buttons.

Based on our observation of the actual sewing method of buttons on clothes, we have improved our design for the buttons – we added a knot at the very back of the button as a neck, making the connection more natural.

The design of the button doll has removed the cute bangs that were merely for decoration, making the design of the button doll more similar to those of the other villagers’ dolls.
After making the changes to the story, we decided that the initial form of the doll (without the button holes) needed to be more similar to the other villagers’ dolls, in line with the feeling in the story that the doll was hidden and integrated among the villagers at the beginning. Therefore, we removed the doll’s original decorative bangs.
